Our
Goals are Simple
Although
we strive to make each Sea for Yourself program as enjoyable and
informative as possible, our aim is not to impart vast quantities
of information.
Rather,
if after a Sea for Yourself experience, you have become more intimate
with the ocean, and are further motivated to explore issues surrounding
the sea, then our intent will have been achieved.
Today
many opportunities are available for appreciating the beauty and
wonder of our aquatic wilderness: excellent television documentaries
and films, a growing number of superb aquariums and interpretative
facilities, and many outstanding books and periodicals.
Yet
the best way to appreciate the underwater world is by simply putting
on a mask and getting wet. Snorkeling is one of the easiest, safest,
and most delightful ways to enjoy the water. We
invite you to join us and see for yourself!
Interpretative
Sessions
Interpretative
sessions adopt a snorkeler's perspective, concentrating on the wealth
of creatures that thrive in relatively shallow water, including
tips on how to best locate and observe those whose survival often
depends on their cryptic nature.
In
addition to species identification, we highlight easily observable
behaviors of fish and invertebrates: interactions, color changes,
and close examination of habitat. Through the use of slides, videos,
and other educational media, these sessions facilitate species identification,
and perhaps more importantly, help us develop an understanding of
how different creatures interact to form the overall ecological
fabric of the coral reef.
Sea
for Yourself strongly believes in environmental awareness. Through
the practice of responsible snorkeling, in tandem with informative
presentations, we hope to expand your awareness of the reef's strengths
and vulnerabilities, as well as relevant conservation efforts to
preserve the marine ecological equilibrium.
