The
Remote Reefs of Palau & Yap
April, 2008 |
| We had two full programs that ran in the wonderful islands of western Micronesia in 2008. These images are just a few impressions
of what we saw and did. |
Our first stop on this trip was in Yap, the westernmost island group in the Federated States of Micronesia. Yap retains much of its traditional culture, unlike many islands in Oceania.

Besides the local culture, we were treated to several snorkeling sites where many of Micronesia's reef fish thrived.

Our next stop was the Palau Pacific Resort, a beautiful spot to base our Palauan snorkeling adventures from. PPR's white sand beach leads to a very nice house reef where schools of parrotfish flash by dozens of giant clams.

The snorkeling in Palau is quite unique considering it has so many different marine habitats within a small area. |
On top of the beautiful reefs, both inside and outside the lagoon, there are a plethora of wrecks which lie amongst the famous Rock Islands.

Clear water and blue sky, just another perfect day in paradise.

A morning rainbow greeted us several times after waking at PPR. |
Palau's surrounding islands keep its inner lagoon waters clear and calm.

The late afternoon sun reflecting off the still waters of the western lagoon provides the perfect backdrop for each day's end.
Pirates or snorkelers? Whichever, we had an incredible time exploring the diverse coral reefs of Micronesia.
